Cambodia Gambling Halls
October 25th, 2009 by Isai

There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling den betting is illegal. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent destination, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are allegedly required to pass, there are methods around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slots and sixty table games. The Naga casino is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that contains a number of comforts on top of the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
